Whistler is in full swing with activities, races and events. With more daylight, Whistler Blackcomb’s slopes are open a bit longer, with the last upload from the base of the mountains now at 3:30 PM.

This month, the Invictus Games is coming to Whistler from February 9 to 13. Cheer on 532 competitors and honour those who serve their country while being a part of the shared journey of recovery. It’s also BC’s Family Day on Monday, February 17, so if you’re looking for fun things to do with the fam jam that long weekend, we’ve got you covered with a post filled with family-friendly ideas.

You’ll be hearing more cowbells on Whistler Mountain’s slopes later this month as skiers tackle the legendary Peak to Valley Race, the longest race of its kind in the world. Not to mention the FIL Luge World Championships is happening at the Whistler Sliding Centre from February 5 to 8.

PSA, it’s Valentine’s Day on February 14, so we put together a few ideas with a Whistler spin for you! Here’s what’s happening in Whistler this February.

Outdoor Adventure

You’ll find us:

  • Getting in some early morning fitness while meeting new ski-touring and split-boarding buddies at the Blackcomb Dawn Patrol hosted by Mt.Waddington Outdoors. This free, bi-weekly (February 5 and 19) morning ski tour starts at 7:00 AM at the bottom of the Blackcomb Gondola and uses the Blackcomb designated up-track. The uphill skinning will take about 1.5 hours, followed by a fun cruise back down to the village where the crew gets together for a coffee (optional). The event is free, but reserving a spot is encouraged.
  • Heading out in a 15-passenger snowcat to higher elevations with The Callaghan. Their shuttle service gives you access to their Nordic trails and the wilds of the Callaghan Valley backcountry (for the latter, make sure you’ve got the knowledge and gear you need to stay safe). Speaking of the wild, Natural Selection’s DUEL event is being held out in the incredible terrain of the Callaghan Valley this month. Watch athletes Bjorn Leines and Brin Alexander go head-to-head on Red Bull TV on February 24.
  • Preparing our thighs ready for some racing! It’s the Kokanee Valley Race Series on February 13 followed by the Peak to Valley Race on February 20 to 22, but if cross-country is more your thing the Coast Outdoors Payak Cross-Country Ski Loppet happens on February 22.
  • Skiing the powder and/or corduroy with a First Tracks ticket, which gives you access to Whistler Blackcomb ahead of the crowd along with a food voucher for that all-important cinnamon bun and mid-morning coffee break.
  • Watching AdventureSmart’s new Pack Like a Pro – Essentials for Outdoor Adventures video series with new posts every Thursday evening and Saturday morning until February 15. Read more about winter safety in our dedicated blog.

Adventure Lite

You’ll find us:

  • Catching the action at the FIL Luge World Championships from February 5 to 8 at the Whistler Sliding Centre. Cheer on 150 of the world’s fastest luge athletes, representing more than 25 countries. The action-packed event features a track full of amazing activities including entertainment, food, a beer garden and more.
  • Heading to Olympic Station on Whistler Mountain to cheer on competitors in the Invictus Games alpine skiing and snowboarding events (you need a sightseeing pass or lift ticket). Check out the full schedule for the lineup of events and details.
  • Exploring the Lost Lake Nordic trails via snowshoe or cross-country skis. Set your own pace as you make your way through the peaceful forest, just minutes away from Whistler Village. Read more in our guide to Cross-Country Skiing at Lost Lake.
  • Dipping a rod into a frozen lake on an ice fishing adventure. February is a good month for it, read more in How to Ice Fish in Whistler.
  • Cheering on the skiers and boarders soaring through rings of fire at the base of Whistler Mountain on Sunday evenings at the Fire & Ice Show. Hear about the volcanoes and glaciers that shaped the Whistler Valley, and about Spo7ez, a village shared by the Squamish Nation and the Lil’wat Nation.

More ways to get outside.

Family Fun

You’ll find us:

  • Busting a move to some live music, part of the Invictus Games celebrations. From February 9 to 13, enjoy daily entertainment and activities including headlining performances from Jim Cuddy and Barney Bentall, Five Alarm Funk, Skratch Bastid, Hey Ocean! and more. All entertainment and sporting events are free and family-friendly (with some events requiring a sightseeing ticket).
  • Celebrating Family Day (February 17) in the mountains with 50% off cross-country skiing at Lost Lake and swimming at Meadow Park, and free admission all day at the Olympic Plaza ice rink. We have more suggestions in our What to Do in Whistler with the Family post. Our tip would be to book activities and restaurants ahead of time as it will be busy over that weekend.
  • Going for dinner and a “movie”, with a forest twist. Vallea Lumina is a multi-media light show in the forest just north of Whistler Village. The result is a magical experience for all ages.

  • Stepping into a world of creativity at the Learn to Burn workshops on February 3 (mountain scene stag piece workshop) or February 15 (special Valentine’s themed workshop) hosted at Blenz Coffee right in Whistler Village. Participants get to take home their final product at the end of the 2-hour workshop!
  • Laughing along with the Laugh Out LIVE! crew at Face Shots & Snow Jobs, their Valentine’s special (or as they like to call it, singles awareness day). It’s high-energy improv, side-splitting sketch, and uproarious stand-up comedy with a Valentine’s twist!
  • Starting our Valentine’s evening at The Art of Cocktail: Love, Art Rosé at the Audain Art Museum. Whether it’s date night or a celebration with friends, mix things up with a hands-on cocktail-making experience featuring the Luc Belaire Rare Rosé, inspired by work by artist Graham Gillmore. Tickets include gallery access on the day of the event!
  • Immersing ourselves in the magic of Candlelight concerts at the Candlelight: Featuring Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and More on February 15. Discover the music of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons under the glow of candlelight in Whistler.
  • Getting an exclusive meet and greet with Jane and Jonah Waterous, a Canadian mother and son duo known for their celebrated art. On February 15 from 4 to 6:30 PM, join them at the Four Seasons Resort Whistler for an exclusive evening of art, conversation and refreshments.
  • Following one of Whistler’s most-loved après bands around the resort! The Hairfarmer’s are a Whistler must-see and you’ll find them at Merlin’s at the base of Blackcomb Mountain and Dusty’s at the Creekside Base on multiple dates throughout the month, check our events calendar for exact dates.

Be a Responsible Traveller: Don’t Love It to Death

  • Help keep Whistler green by choosing tap water over bottled water, avoiding single-use plastics, leaving the car at home, choosing active transportation and sorting garbage properly to reduce your waste.
  • Be AdventureSmart and always practice Leave No Trace principles.
  • Consider our Responsible Travel pillars, Respect Nature, Think Environment, Don’t Love It to Death and Support Local.
  • Whistler Alert is the official emergency notification system used by the RMOW to communicate with residents and visitors during emergencies via text message, phone and email. We encourage you to sign up for it while you’re here (just in case). When you register, you will be asked to provide your contact number and the date you plan to leave Whistler so that you don’t receive alerts when you’re back home.

If You’re Driving . . .

  • Take a read of Go Car Free: 8 Reasons to Ditch the Car on Your Whistler Trip in case we can convince you that you don’t need your car!
  • Whistler Blackcomb has launched a trial carpool program for this winter season. Vehicles with four or more occupants get free priority parking access in Lot 7 and Creekside Level 1 parking lots from 6 AM to 11 AM on weekends and peak periods.
  • Winter tires or chains are required on the Sea to Sky Highway from now until March 31. Make sure to check you have these, especially if you’re using a rental car. Read more on our Road Conditions page.
  • Help reduce congestion on the highway by travelling during non-peak times. Peak travel times on the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler include Friday afternoons and evenings, weekends and holidays. To avoid this busy time, plan to visit Whistler midweek when the highway and the resort are typically quieter. Extend your weekend – plan to arrive on Thursday night and leave on Monday morning to avoid the weekend traffic. If you’re visiting Whistler only for the day, plan on staying for dinner to avoid the rush of day traffic leaving the resort after the mountain closes.
  • Always check DriveBC for current road conditions before getting on the road. Follow @DriveBC on Twitter and listen to MountainFM for the latest updates.
  • Paid parking is in effect in all the Day Lots although there is complimentary parking from 5 PM to 8 AM. Overnight parking is not allowed in the Day Lots over winter (November 1 to March 31). Please check the RMOW website for more information on parking including an interactive map.
