Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Whether you’re after a quick bite before hitting first lift, a relaxing catch-up over bennies, or a hearty plate to fuel you for a day on the hill, Whistler’s breakfast and brunch scene has got you covered.
With a multitude of options, from all-you-can-eat experiences to sweet treats and classic brunch dishes, there’s something for everyone in Whistler.
Breakfast Close to the Slopes
The Longhorn Saloon
If you’re looking to fuel up first thing, The Longhorn Saloon offers sit-in or grab-and-go breakfast sandwiches (sausage or bacon, egg and cheese), to which you can add a hashbrown and drip coffee, all for $14. Breakfast is served from 7 AM to 10:30 AM daily and sits adjacent to the Whistler Gondola.
Perfect for when you want to pair breakfast with catching the first lift and fresh tracks!
“My breakfast isn’t complete without coffee and ketchup!” – Grace Phillips, from Brisbane, Australia.
Blacks Pub
With views of Skier’s Plaza and a delicious range of breakfast items, Blacks Pub is a great breakfast spot (served from 9 AM to 11 AM daily). Their signature dish is The Black’s Benny, complete with onion jam and prosciutto, topped off with perfectly poached eggs and luscious hollandaise.
“My favourite breakfast dish is the Avocado Toast crowned with poached eggs.” – Jess Lucketti, Blacks Server from Manchester, UK.
And it soon became mine with its bed of fluffy focaccia and welcome additions of red onion, tangy tomato jam and crumbled feta made for a delicious combination.
I’d highly recommend sitting outside on a sunny day around one of their firelit patio tables as you watch the hustle and bustle of skiers heading up the mountain.
Dubh Linn Gate Pub
With a heated outdoor patio or cozy indoor firelit setup, The Dubh Linn Gate Pub is ideal if you’re in the mood for a later brunch. Open 10 AM – 1 PM, this classic Irish pub serves its signature Irish Fry Up complete with two free-range eggs, bacon and bangers, grilled tomato, black pudding and baked beans. Served with toast and pub spuds.
Our Dubh Linn server, Rick Parker from the Gold Coast in Australia, says his favourite dish is the Eggs Benny with tomato and avocado. It sits on toasted buttered English muffins and is served with house-made hollandaise sauce and pub spuds.
We couldn’t resist getting something sweet in the form of the Banana Bread French Toast. House-made and served with Nutella cream, real maple syrup and fresh fruit, it was a sugar lover’s dream. The charming service, great playlist and cozy table by the fire made for a delicious brunch experience.
Southside Diner
A short walk from Creekside Gondola, Southside Diner is a must if you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast. With an open kitchen layout, intimate booths and vintage photographs adorning the walls, Southside exudes your classic American diner style. Open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM, Southside’s breakfast menu is available until 3 PM, which is ideal for those really lazy brunches!
This local diner serves comfort food at its finest covering everything from burgers, bennies and poutine. Their signature brunch item? The Southside Slam. Complete with homemade blueberry pancakes, maple syrup, smoked bacon, sausages, home fries and two eggs. Pair it with a milkshake made with old-school, hand-scooped basics and you’ll be set up for the day.
Our server, Kate McKinley, from Ontario, Canada, says her go-to is the Breakfast Poutine. Two poached eggs with hollandaise perch on top of diced bacon, breakfast sausage, grilled onion, cheese curds, homefries and poutine gravy.
“It’s got everything on it. Either that or the Blue Cheese Bacon Burger with pickles and all the sauces.”
Luxury Breakfasts and Brunches in Whistler
The Den at Nita Lake Lodge
500 metres from the base of Creekside Gondola, in the heart of Nita Lake Lodge, you’ll find The Den. Located in Whistler’s only lakeside resort and hotel, The Den sits overlooking Nita Lake, making for an unbeatable view while you dine.
Their a la carte breakfast is served 7 AM to 11 AM Monday to Saturday and they offer a Brunch Buffet every Sunday from 7 AM to 11 AM.
For Eggs Benedict lovers, you have to try their Bottomless Bennies. This never-ending serving of any benedict, with hollandaise and country potatoes, allows you to mix and match delicious combinations.
Whether you pick the smoked salmon and pickled red onion, prosciutto cotto, rosemary ham and fried sage, or avocado tomato jam and roasted spiced seeds, the challenge is to see how many you can eat. Plus, it’s served with a glass of fresh pressed orange juice which can be upgraded to a mimosa.
Their Sunday Brunch Buffet hosts a strong selection of classic brunch options, seafood and charcuterie bar, pastry buffet and build-your-own-caesar bar.
“The Den’s specialty is seasonal dishes with a strong focus on local farm-to-table products and an emphasis on vegan alternatives. You must try their Vegan Sausage and Tofu Scramble.” – Dagmara Hrusovska, from Slovakia.
The Wildflower at Fairmont Chateau Whistler
If you’re looking for a luxurious start to your day, I recommend visiting The Wildflower at Fairmont Chateau Whistler. The Wildflower oozes splendour with attentive service that goes above and beyond.
Their Alpine Breakfast Buffet will indulge you with an impressive selection of local classics, favourites and daily features, and it includes coffee, tea and your choice of chilled juices.
“My breakfast choice is the Mushrooms on Toast.” – Daniel Irvine from Oxford, UK.
The dish comes with multigrain toast, pan-roasted mixed mushrooms, two poached eggs, goat’s cheese bechamel, breakfast potatoes, tomato and asparagus.
I chose the Whistler Mountain and was asked a multitude of questions such as how I’d like my eggs, what type of bread; rye, multigrain, white or cranberry, what preserve; jam, marmalade, honey etc., all to ensure the breakfast was to my exact liking.
Available 7 AM to 10:30 AM, breakfast and brunch at The Wildflower is attentive, personable and utterly indulgent.
Breakfast in the Heart of Whistler Village
Caramba
As you wander into the heart of Whistler Village, you’ll find Caramba centred in the town plaza. Serving breakfast and brunch 8 AM – 12 PM, Caramba is the perfect spot to watch the world go by as tourists and locals alike wander the Village Stroll.
Their egg bennies are a must-try with their brown butter and truffle hollandaises. Alongside this signature is their Hangover Sandwich, complete with butcher-cut bacon, sausage, fried, free-range egg, hashbrowns, cheese and sriracha mayo. I can imagine how this sandwich can become a saviour on those mornings after an evening enjoying Whistler’s nightlife.
“My favourite brunch dishes are the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Dungeness Crab Eggs Bennies. The flavoured hollandaise makes them truly unique.” – Miar Murphy, from Kent, UK.
In search of something I was yet to come across in Whistler, I chose the Croque Madame. This toasted sourdough bread beautifully sandwiched the gruyere, dijon bechamel and country ham. Lovingly topped with a fried egg, this dish was delicious as the crunchy bread, rich cheesy flavour and just runny egg made the perfect combination.
I don’t know whether it was the Croque Madame or something about Caramba’s warm and inviting atmosphere, but I felt transported to a cozy mountain chalet in the French Alps.
Hunter Gather
Towards the south end of Whistler Village is Hunter Gather, a casual counter-order eatery and taphouse that has hearty breakfast options packed full of flavour. Open for breakfast from 9 AM every day of the week and serve it until 11:30 AM on weekdays, noon on Saturdays and 2 PM on Sundays.
Their signature? The Hunter Bacon Benny, served with double-smoked bacon with two poached eggs and garlic kale, on toasted sourdough with lemon hollandaise. I’d recommend the bennies on a potato base, which is ideal for extra carb intake to keep you fuelled for a day on the hill!
If you’re after something a little extra, the Southern Fried Chicken on Canadian Maples Waffles served with hollandaise and hot maple sauce is a unique combination of sweet and salty. Hunter Gather is a great, casual spot to catch up over brunch and feed your soul with hearty food.
Earls
For those weekend warriors, Earls serves tasty brunch every weekend until 2 PM. Their intimate booths and cozy interior make for a great spot to gather the friendship group for weekend brunch.
Earls offers a delicious array of Eggs Benedicts from classic options to Crab Cake or Prawn, all served with hollandaise toast, potato pavé, and spring greens. Plus, their brunch happy hour is available from open until 11 AM, allowing you to enjoy breakfast savings and make the most of the morning!
