Ice Skating in Whistler

Each winter a special ice skating rink opens in Whistler Olympic Plaza, where you can go ice skating in the heart of Whistler Village with views of the surrounding mountains, the Olympic Rings and thousands of twinkling, festive lights.

The outdoor ice skating rink and Snow Zone at Whistler Olympic Plaza are currently closed. Operations typically run from late November to mid-March. Please check back for 2025/26 dates and hours in November.

*All dates and hours are subject to change. Ice rink is open to the public except for special events or if Olympic Plaza is booked for private functions. Outdoor rinks are affected by weather – rink may close unexpectedly if conditions are unfavourable. For up-to-date information, call 604-935-PLAY and press 3.

Facilities and Activities

• First come, first served, no reservations
• Limited capacity on ice surfaces
• Skaters and encouraged to bring their own skates and helmets
• Helmets are encouraged, limited supply available (no charge)
• Skate aids available at no charge, limited quantity
• Game zone (stick and puck play) available Monday to Friday, 11 AM – 1:30 PM and 2:30 – 5 PM
• Accessibility features include entrance / exit ramp and physical support offered to get on / off the ice
• Adjacent Snow Zone for snow play

• Tots (4 years and under): Free
• Children (5 - 12 years): $3.25
• Youth (3 - 18 years): $4.50
• Adults (19+): $5.50
• Family (parents & child dependents): $13.75
• Skate rental: $6.50
• Helmets and skate aids: Free

Outdoor Skating on Local Lakes

When conditions are right, skating is possible on many local lakes if you have your own skates.* Skating on natural ice should only be undertaken when weather conditions have created safe ice conditions and is undertaken at your own risk. When in doubt, head to the outdoor rink at Whistler Olympic Plaza or the indoor rink at Meadow Park instead.

Important Safety Tips:

• Never skate alone
• Check the weather (temperatures should ideally be below -10° C / 14° F for several days prior to skating)
• Speak with local residents or call a local fishing tour operator to check conditions
• Bring a drill and skating pole to test the thickness of the ice. A 10 cm (4 in) minimum ice thickness is recommended.
• Before you leave shore, inform someone of your destination and expected time of return
• Dress for cold weather conditions and wear a thermal protection buoyant suit to increase your chances of survival if you do go through the ice
• Carry ice picks, an ice staff and a rope
• Stay close to shore where the water is shallower
• Keep away from unfamiliar paths or unknown ice and avoid travelling on ice at night
• Stay away from any open water areas including small holes and slushy spots
• Wear a helmet and other protective gear
• Small children should be supervised at all times

*Rental skates from Whistler Olympic Plaza and Meadow Park Sports Centre may not be taken off property. There are no skate rentals available for lake use in Whistler.

Indoor Skating

Meadow Park Sports Centre

The Meadow Park Sports Centre features an NHL-sized ice surface with public skating available with daytime and evening sessions (subject to change for special events and holidays).

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own skates and helmets to public skating sessions. Alternatively, the full service skate shop will be open to provide skate rentals, helmets and skate aids as needed. All rental equipment will be properly sanitized between each user.
